Frequent updates on conditions in Chamonix, what Dream Guides is upto and what I am upto can be found on Dream Guides Latest News - click here Another great ski season is coming to an end... Despite a cold and dry start, we ended up with loads of snow and good conditions right up into June. I was lucky enough to share some great adventures in the Bernese Oberland, Gran Paradiso area, Queyras mountains, Aravis, Monte Rosa region, La Grave and of course my back yard - Chamonix. This spring local steep conditions were good and several descents stick in my mind - knee deep powder in the Buche couloir, thigh deep fluff followed by perfect corn on the NW Shoulder of the Aiguille du Tacul, an epic descent of the Chevalier couloir with my ski bases balling up (not enough wax!) and a solo adventure skiing the South Couloir of the Aiguille de l'Eboulement... Photos in the Gallery. In a couple of months, at the end of August, I am off to Tibet to telemark Cho Oyu (8201m) - the world's 6th highest mountain. If successful, this will be the first British ski descent of an 8000m peak and 3rd ever telemark of an 8000er. 12/10/06...I am just back from Tibet where Dream Guides successfully helped 3 climbers to the top of Cho Oyu! Unfortunately,I was unable to go for the summit because a climber in need used up our stash of gas high on the mountain - but I did get to make some breathless turns from 7100m, on slopes upto 45 degrees. All in all a great trip! 14/02/07....Despite the UK press' desire to make everyone think there is no snow in the Alps, the season so far has been reasonable with skiing above 2500m being very good. I've had a load of good powder days, some requiring some uphill leg-work (more rewarding!) and I write this in the middle of a Big Snow dump...as usual, things are looking good for the second half of the season... Future plans?....at the end of April, I along with three friends, am heading off to Greenland for three weeks exploring and hopefully skiing first descents - should be quite a trip! Updates will be posted on Dream Guides Latest News... 28/05/07....Greenland - a superb trip! Check out the YouTube show and photos in the Gallery...Alps - a very good season all in all with epic powder in Engelberg, steeps in Les Arcs and the Bellecote north face, north couloir of the Aig du Fruits in Courcheval - let alone the great days in Chamonix (NE face of les Courtes, Capucin couloir, perfect powder in the Trappier and ENSA couloirs, need I go on?) and a perfect condition Haute Route to boot!! | ![]() | |||
